Philippa – Alternating Semi-Privacy Fence 1.5 m
Estimate your fence costs in few easy steps
Alternating vertical boards create partial screening. Visibility changes with viewing angle — private from the front, open airflow from the side.
Overview
The Philippa alternates 75mm and 38mm wide pickets spaced approximately 30mm apart to create a textured pattern across the panel face. The varying widths break up the uniform appearance of a standard picket fence, giving the Philippa a more layered, decorative look. At 1.5 metres it provides semi-privacy screening – enough height and density to limit direct sightlines, but with gaps that allow airflow and natural light through the fence. The design reads differently depending on the viewing angle, which gives it visual depth that a flat panel or evenly-spaced picket fence does not have.

The alternating pattern
Wide and narrow pickets create a rhythm across the panel face. From directly in front, the spacing is visible and the fence has an open, airy quality. At an angle, the overlapping effect of different picket widths increases the visual density and the fence reads as more solid. This is a deliberate design feature – the Philippa changes character depending on where you stand.
Semi-privacy at 1.5 metres
The Philippa provides enough screening for side boundaries and areas where you want some privacy without a solid wall. At 1.5m it covers the height where most casual sightlines occur. The gaps between pickets let breeze and light through, keeping the space behind the fence from feeling enclosed. For stronger screening at a taller height, the Caroline offers semi-privacy at 1.7m with uniform picket spacing.
A fence with visual character
The alternating picket pattern gives the Philippa a design quality that most fencing products lack. It works as a visual feature as much as a boundary. PVC holds the spacing and alignment permanently. In timber, the same alternating pattern would shift as boards warp and swell with moisture. The Philippa stays true to its installed profile regardless of weather or season.
Areas that need light and airflow
The Philippa suits side returns, garden boundaries, and areas between properties where a solid fence would block too much light or ventilation. It works well along narrow side passages, between a house and a pool area, and on boundaries where both neighbours benefit from the airflow. For a similar screening level with a different look, the Caroline uses uniform 75mm pickets at a taller 1.7m.
